4 Tips for Thrift Shopping Rookies

Thrift shopping is anything but easy. No matter what you think, it takes talent to find trendy pieces in a big pile of clothes.

But we all have to start somewhere and one can feel easily overwhelmed. Finding pieces that you must buy and which will give people that feeling that you’ve spent more than you actually have is hardly easy as a rookie.

Here are 4 tips for thrift shopping rookies:

1: Location matters

Finding a thrift store in the most glamorous part of your city. You should be able to find expensive brands as a result such as Chanel, Burberry or Marc Jacobs. Make sure you get to that store as soon as possible before others do.

2: Check the tags

Buying clothes that are made of cheap material or terrible stitching is a bad idea. They will last for less than a year even if worn gently. Some of these brands include Forever 21, H&M and Urban Behaviour. Just leave them behind.

3: Work with what you’ve got

Get creative if a piece of clothing isn’t in your size. If your jacket or T-shirt is too big, then roll up the sleeves or turn the latter into a flowy, crop top. Hemming skirts or pants that are too long is not a bad idea either.

4: Know what colors you need

Know the colors that you use most often. While stores usually color coordinate their clothing, this might be the case always. So, picking the colors you need will help narrow down the selection that will go well with the rest of your wardrobe.
